I sent the wife to the store while I was at work to pick up some koi food and I told her top pick up tetra food forgetting to mention the color of the bag (may fault). I get home from work and she begins to tell me that the sails person at the counter told her that the red bag of tetra color food was much better than the green bag my usual. It brightens color and is a better summer time food. My kids and her already opened the bag and fed the fish with her and all that is going through my mind is NOOOOOOOO. The fish seem to like it fine and no jelly floating that would make me think that they have upset systems. So now I figured I would do some research on it because the bag is now open and I don't want to waste the food or my money. From what I have read is that it is great for reds and yellows but it can stunt the maturation of the colors or over color (orange spots on a yellow fish) and the part that really concerns me is that it may turn my crisp white fish cream color or yellowish. Is there any validity to these claims? Should I keep feeding it to the fish or throw it out? instead of throwing it out can I mix it with the regular green bag of tetra? It would be cool to brighten up the fish but I don't want to do it at the cost of the some of my other fish not having there very clean bright white, especially because my colored fish are already pretty bright and vibrant. So I am sending up the becan to those who know much more about ponding than I. What do you guys think?

I feed the Tetra Pond Vibrance as my regular food ... can only tell you may platinum is still white, as are my "bi-color" fish ... white where they are supposed to be white ... the only ones I have an issue with changing colors are my "mullts" and it seems to be more of a temperature issue, and not food related...

Whoo that's great news I feel like I dodged a bullet on that one. Thanks for putting my mind at ease I think I will finish the bag and keep an eye on them.

On a brighter note I was able to pet a fish for the first time.

Yes it doesnt affect the clour of your koi however why stick to Tetra there are some really good koi foods out there personally I no longer rate Tetra as a good food.
Hikari do a very good range of foods for koi as do NTLabs which are created specifically to do different jobs, from Spring feeding, Health and Beauty.
Pond Care NutriPearls are my favorite foods at the moment.
Kusuri do a really good range here in the UK and I believe they sell in the US.
I'm using a range of dried food by Evolution Aqua Pond Treats consisting of Freeze dried Mealworm, Gammarus,Silkworm Pupea, shrimp these will brighten your whites "Shiro" and intensify your Reds "Sumi".
They get the occasional orange, raw king Prawn etc
We did a thread on alternate foods for koi put together over the last 27 years it makes interesting reading check it out .
But the gist of what I'm saying is dont stay a slave to just one food range as there are many others you can use to beautify your koi...

If you add ground organic garlic to your spring food it helps them feed again and wards of diseases .It is usually in the produce section of stores
