turtle cause for concern?

I have a 2 yr old large pond 50ft x 25ft x 6ft deep with a liner (>$2000)w/ Bass, Bluegill, & catfish. I noticed today for fist time a snapping turtle -approx 8 inch shell. Can this thing damage my pond liner?

You know, I have seen liner ponds used as turtle sanctuaries. That said, a snapper's tendency to dig with those sharp claws would scare me half to death. Not to mention eating your fish and possibly breeding. I'd try to get him out somehow, IMHO.

yes i would try to rehome him too, but might not be so easy catching him !! :0)

I see some turtle traps in the lake in our town
I never looked at how they were made. Its just a 30 gal plastic drum
and float in the water 1/2 way and lets them get in but not out

I think I have a couple pics loaded. One is from pond level during construct. The other is from the other side with my children standing near it. Today the pond has a few lilis and some cattails----and a turtle

Looks great! Yeah, I'd try to remove the turtle. Is there a body of water very nearby?
