What is growing in my skimmer??

This has been an ongoing problem for a few months now. Every 1-2 weeks I get this brown gunk growing off the back of the skimmer filter. The skimmer has a lid and does not get any sunlight. What is this stuff and how do I keep it from coming back?

Ignore the spider web... this was prior to me cleaning it.

Water is crystal clear and ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites are all zero. PH is at 8, but stable.

I think that is just part of the pond ecosystem. I have this in my skimmer pad also. That crud might have microorganisms in it that are actually helping keep your water so wonderful! I could also be just the accumulation of tiny solids that get pulled in by the pump. I'm sure it isn't harmful. I just take out my pad every few weeks and hose it off a bit.
