I have an 800 gallon above ground pond with a Lifeguard Aquatics all in one triple system that is located in the pond. When I first set up the pond I was cleaning the filter every two months. I was then told that I was wrong and should only clean the filter every six months or less. Then I was told to only rinse the filters in a bucket with pond water. I did try that but it didn't seem to get the filters very clean. There is only a small media bag for holding biological material which I never cleaned.

So will those people with in pond filters please give me their incites and advice. I have been up and running for the last 8 months with no problem and all my fish appear healthy and growing.

My all in one filter has been set up for around 3 months now and I have no plans to clean it yet
When cleaning them I would definitely only rinse them in old pond water and nothing else to protect the good bacteria
In my opinion it would be better to not clean them out as much rather than over clean them, each pond will be different but providing it doesn't appear to be clogging up or the flow is slowing down then you should be fine
