My warehouse is full of 20 LB pails taking up space. A friend of mine designs DIY filters with them for his breeding tanks, but he has a bunch already. I'm just curious as to what they might be worth, since they seem to be pretty popular with the DIY crowd.

What do you guys typically pay for such a thing (just the pail, not the completed filter)? I've seen them at local aquarium shops.... usually a few bucks or sometimes more. I might put them up on CL if it seems worthwhile to do it. Thought about making the filters, but I just don't have time!

Seems way to small to be useful as filter? At least for a pond. Or how are they generally used? Now if youd have a warehouse full of 55 or 100 gallon barrels, then im sure youd find people interested.

They would probably be of more interest to breeders with small isolation tanks/fry tanks than a full blown outdoor pond scenario. Or small indoor water features with koi.

I do occasionally have larger barrels and buckets, but we always seem to find a use for the extras. Right now I have about 8 pallets stacked 25 high and 4x4 across with them. One of these days I'll find a use for them, but for now they're just taking up rack space.

Haha. That sounds like a worthy effort. :) Appealing to my maker gene.

I might hit a couple of aquarium shops around town, see if they'll take them off my hands. They sell them for a few bucks at those places. Somehow. Then ebay or cl if that doesn't do. Or sell them as 'redneck flower pots.'
