That’s a barrel that fills up and overflows. There won’t be much it it. Maybe light media and some stone in bottom. It will overflow down mortared rocks. And have some plants in top. Planning to put shrimp in there. Neocaridina to breed safe and flow out s little to populate pond. Won’t see the barrel

So my plan involves capping the rock wall and encasing liner and overlay. The overlay will make easy mortaring of stone up to cap as well.

If I end the overlay early I’ll have the cap either in contact with water or stone up to cap from water, so wicking to cap either way. But the cap is not the same as dirt surrounding a hole as this is raised. So…?
What would you do?

I don’t want to see liner. I could do the cap and dry stack up near to the cantilever bit but not touch.

If I let it go as planned, then what, the cap connected to wall acts as evaporator? Not too different from semi submerged rocks.
