Looks like it. It’s neither good nor bad. It’s something that happens to all ponds, usually when there aren’t enough plants to consume excess nutrients. You can pull it out and toss in your compost. How many plants do you have?

Thank you, that’s probably it I got started late this year putting plants in the pond so they have not multiplied too much yet. The reason for that is last year when I first started the pond I put four koi in around September. From the day I put them in I had not ever seen them again. I assumed they died or some critter got them. Until, low and behold on memorial day this year there were the four fish that I put in the pond in September. At that point I ran out and grabbed some plants. I assume then that the string algae will clear up as the plants take over the pond. Thank you very much for your reply it is greatly appreciated.

Algae is a sign of a healthy pond meaning that water is not toxic. Though algae can certainly survive where plants can not. Algae such as hair algae is not a bad algae it is just unsightly in large quantities.
