Great article! The bit about dragon flies and birds using polarized light to home in on ponds is very cool. The dragon flies were among the first "exotic" visitors to my pond, and I was wondering where the could have come from. There's not much fresh water anywhere around here, and yet, there they were -- dragon flies of all colors zipping around the surface of the pond.

They lost me saying electric tools are that much better than gas if you only look at the tools out put sure, but look at the strip mining and toxic metals for batteries and disposal and its a hard cold not even close.

Shoot - it won't work for me now, either. But it looks like it is a temporary server problem. (Did you like how I said that with confidence? I have no idea what it means.)

Electric (EV/tool/whatever) has greater environmental impact than ICE in manufacturing, but significantly less during operation lifecycle. Even more so if electric generation is from solar/wind/hydro/geothermal. And battery recycling gives another boost, but needs to become more sophisticated.

All in all, they're close to parity right now, but electric development will eventually put it far ahead once battery recycling gets better.
