I have 7 ponds that are fish less, they are usually full of plants. I have been doing some hard cleaning right now, so a few stripped. All the wildlife ponds get dirty water feed from the big pond, no filtering. Always full of frogs, tads, dragon fly larvae etc. They are like settling tanks. Collect the muck.

The two deck ponds that waterfall down into a 80ish foot stream to the big pond. Fed dirty water from the big pond. Full of frogs. The net is to keep the yorkies from climbing into the ponds, which they have done.

A pond in the stream, just stripped of purple iris and grass (totally full of plants) the floating is cypress needles (stream just turned on washing the dead stuff down)

Another fish less stream pond, has iris, lily, parrots feather in it. And frogs

One of the loop ponds. As it warms the water willow, lily, etc take over.

Last loop pond just cleaned and demucking it, was full of parrot feather, water willow, to the point you did not see water. Put a lily in, the water willow and parrots feather will come back.

@addy1 I did not realize you had so many wild ponds! They are great for the plants and frogs. Can fish ever sneak in there or eggs?

So cool! I love the idea of having a long stream going down the hill. Presumably, the frogs keep the mosquito population in check.

When we bought this house, the lower patio, concrete was covered with black crickets. We also had them get in the basement. And mosquitoes. After the pond, almost zero mosquitoes, hardly ever see a cricket. One road over they fight the blood suckers.

It made a great difference, even my neighbor says they have a lot less crickets and biters.

I guess I could call my pond a wild life pond now that I have no fish. I have more frogs showing up and many toads. Lots of birds flock to bath and drink in the water fall and squirrels drink from the edge of the pond. My floating plant baskets are coming back to life and lily pads are at the water's surface.

Marsh marigolds stays lower and blooms now, the water buttercup does not start blooming for another month or so. It is also a tall plant 3 -5 feet or so. Spreads by seed.

Don't know about the buttercup but the marigold can be pretty invasive it sends out runners that can pop up many feet away. love your two tier deck pond off to the side cool idea.

We use a clear water pump to get the water up to them. About 100 foot head pressure. The ponds get fresh water which then waterfalls into the stream back to the big pond. I have it on a timer not continously running.
