I may have sent a thread earlier, I’m not sure it went through. So I’m asking the question again. A little over a year ago one of my Koi fish or goldfish had babies. Right now they appear to be approximately 3 inches long and they have not colored up. Will they still color up or not and is this normal and why.

What color/kind are your koi and goldfish? Fish tend to “color up” on their own timeline, and if you have both, you could have hybrids. Or, they could be expressing their genetics. I have goldfish. Sometimes I get solid black babies, olive colored babies, colorless babies, or goldfish colored babies. Then one day — poof! They have changed color seemingly over night! You really just never know.

At three inches, they may not be as old as you think, so lack of color wouldn’t be unusual. My three inch goldfish are from this spring.

I have some that are olive colored, black colored and are staying that way. Some are over 8 inches in size.

I have seen these babies in the pond since last spring. As a matter of fact, When the babies showed up one of my orange and white goldfish never showed back up again. Not even floating, Nothing. I’m not sure my pond is big enough to handle all the fish. I’ve been giving Them to other people I hope it’s not a mistake.

Koi are White-ish and the gold are orange and white. They diffently appeared in the spring of 2021. After the babies appeared I have not seen one of my orange and white goldfish since. Not floating or nothing, just gone. I Gave a couple of the babies away to another pond owner. Hopefully that’ll be OK? I am not sure that my pond size can sustain all the fish.

all koi have in the genes olive green in color, the reds, blacks, oranges, blues, and yellows are mutations you can breed two orange white and black koi and get an all red or olive . you never know what you'll get . The deeper the blood line the further there breeding = the more you pay for quality breeds the better the chance of babies with colors
