Hubby and I started to build our bog today :) I think the worst part (so far) has been getting that huge spirea out of the way!

This morning the water was the most clear I have ever seen it. Except when we had to empty the pond to fix a cave in, and then it was clear for only two days.
I can see the fish on the bottom, I think they are a little stunned that they can see us from the bottom as well!! I wanted to pick up some blocks today to start laying out the bog, but I didn't have my SUV today...Definately tomorrow :) Going to try to get out of work early.... It's going to be approx. 10' x 4' ish. I ordered the liner and underlayment on Ebay today.
My baby Koi are doing great in the aquarium, they run to the front of the glass when I walk in the room...LOL...they know I'm going to feed them. There are still a lot of babies in the pond, don't know why the turtle or fish didn't eat most of the eggs??? I can't have all those babies in the pond! I wonder if they make birth control pills for them or if they can have their tubes tied or a vasectomy???

I picked up 20 blocks today and started some leveling of the area. I have a few of the blocks down with only a few blisters and a couple splinters...LOL
The pond is clearing up beautiful now. I can see the intake pipes on the bottom of the pond! I think the fish are freeked out being able to see us watching them at the bottom!
Here are a couple pictures of my progress tonight...

Well....so much for progress......LOL
I've just looked up the instructions on the internet for the blocks I bought. I didn't ask for any at Lowes.
So far I haven't laid down any paver base and I've started laying the blocks upside down! Hehehe
I'll stop at Lowes tomorrow after work and pick up what I need. I'm gonna make it bigger and better! I'm determined. I wish my husband wasn't a
golf-a-holic. Maybe I will hire someone to come and build it for me. That'll fix him...

Pond continues to get clearer by the day! So excited to be able to see everything on the bottom now.

Not much progress today, just dug out the trench for the first layer of blocks. Going to use regular blocks for the first layer, which will be below grade. Used a string to mark the circumference of the curve.
I can't believe how clear the pond has gotten since installing the new Skippy filter. The fish in the picture are four feet down!

Humph :( Today is Sunday and hubby said we would work on the bog Sunday morning before going to our grandson's birthday party. He's still sleeping and the party starts in an hour. He says he's tired from working, but I think he's tired from golfing in 3 tournaments this week.......GRRRRRR.
I was able to level 2 more cinder blocks all by myself. Yeah me.....

Finished laying the blocks today. Haha, the last row is 1" off level, yay my hubby! Oh well, he is a good baker and golfer.... When we put the finishing piece on the top row we will use some morter to prop it up a little. Laying out the underlayment now, but it has started to rain and I need to pick up our 5 year old grandson from school in about 15 minutes. Still thinking about how I'm going to bring the water from the bog to the pond. Kind of have it figured out.....LOL

Picked up the pvc pipes today and I had some helpers to carry it back to the bog :) Put the liner in too. I'm hoping to get out of work early tomorrow to finish the pvc work.

The bog is up and running! I'm going to have my son pick up another inch of gravel and we need to put the tops on the retainer wall. I also need to get a load of flat stones to finish up the decorating. I used foam to secure in the return pipes. I'll hide all that with some rocks :) This time I used disposable gloves when I sprayed that stuff!! Last time I used it I got it all over my hands, then rubbed my hands in dirt.......not good.....

Bog and pond are doing great! Chemistry levels are all perfect....doing only small water changes every week to ten days or so. Just aquired a 90 gallon aquarium from a friend so I can transfer my baby koi into it from the 20 gallon that they are in. I was going to try and cycle it the normal aquarium way, but it has been up for a week already and nothing yet. So, I emptied it and filled it with pond water, put some Skippy filter media in the aquarium filter, added a little more Microbe Lift PL Bacteria to it and hoping for the best. I will wait a couple days and see what happens. The 50 baby koi that are in the 20 gallon aquarium will be much happier in the 90 gallon. I'm doing two 25% water changes a day in that little 20 gallon.

I think some of my babies might be butterfly koi. I have been looking at them a lot and some of their fins are longer than other koi that are the same size. I looked it up on the internet and saw an article that said by six months you can see the longer fins of the butterfly koi. Mine are 3 1/2 months now and I'm suspecting, but not sure....a couple more months and it should be obvious.
