Is this at Nag's Head? :)

Very cool!

It is Assateague Island here in Maryland. There is a state park and a national park. We go to the national side since we can take our pup while on the beach. The state side you can't. You can camp in one area with a pup but no beach time. National side your pup can be anywhere except in the life guarded beach area.

We have been coming enough over the years, you start to recognize some of the horses. They have a book with a picture of every horse, year born, sex, how many babies if female. They do give birth control to any mare that has a foal to keep her from having another for 3ish years. Population control.

The only care they get is if one is badly damaged they will put it down.

We pay to keep our RV at a real nice RV park for 4 months. Two huge lakes, you can fish if you want, bass and blue gills. We then drive over about every other week, starting in July. The RV is all set up, fridge cold, flip on the air and all set up. Well unpack also. About a 2.5 to 3 hour drive, depending on traffic. We time our drive to miss the frantic busy holiday and weekend traffic, it is horrible.

They are neat, best to stay away from. To many people think they can pet them.

A lot of neat colors, basically healthy.

Driving out of the park we saw the herd out in the bay area, brine water and grasses.

The baby we saw years ago, with a white heart on its side, is grown up now.

The blue arrow points to the one with the heart.

When I was 12 and a horse crazykid, I read Misty of Chincoteague. Imagine my excitement when I realized Misty was a REAL HORSE!! And I could go there!!! From them until well into my old age, (I was 61 July 4th) I try to make it back to Chincoteague & Assateague !! I did meet Misty, Stormy her foal, Cloudy Misty's grandfoal, & Maureen Beebe from the original story. My father bought a home in Parksley Va just a short drive from the islands!!! Next trip check out Parksley 's Train Museum, part of it is dedicated to my dad! Thanks for bringing back some great childhood memories!!
