What are these rather big water bugs? I noticed they were in my entangled lotus roots earlier this spring when I took it out of the pot and divided it. Is it harmful to my plants?
Sorry for quality of pic, couldn’t get any closer so I had to zoom

Interesting, and confirms the solution to a mystery. I have a fine net over my “pond,” mainly to keep out fall leaves, but I never took it down when spring arrived. Was out looking the other day, and there were 2 beautiful dragonflies in there. I couldn’t figure out HOW they got in, but I went ahead and uncovered a section so they could get out. The thought crossed my mind that they had been living in there (as eggs) and completed their life cycle to adult. Cool!

Oh that’s nice, I love dragonflies! How stupid of me to not even know something this obvious…
