absolutely not. lack of filtration, over stocking, over feeding, feeding too much at one time instead of small feedings, Lack of plants and not keeping up with minimal maintenance is the culprits for string algae once these are in balance string algae and pea green water disappear.

Please check out some of the underwater photos I’ve posted of my pond. Literally every inch is covered in carpet algae - I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s an important part of your biological filtration, plus it makes it great food source for your fish during the cold months.

My fish only get a tiny bit of food from me right now its all in what they can get grazing on the bio film/ carpet algae. which is the correct term but its short hair it does not grow to 2 or 3 feet long and the bacteria and micro organisums call this home. All the while the fish call it a five course meal.
