It looks great and you said there's soil underneath? So it's soil/liner/rocks? And the soil is in a bag to prevent it escaping?
Oh and they do swim back and forth? That's so neat!!

Thanks tbend, yeah in the barrel lid there is a kidney shaped mesh pot that is filled with pond safe soil, but I still tried to prevent any soil leakage from the plant pot to stop the pond water being stained or tinted.

that is just about where I have got to so far..

Most of the fish are now hand tame and have piled on weight since buying them with long healthy tails. The water quality is spot on and clear although I added another small powerhead pump to the left hand barrel just to add a bit of air and disturbance on the water surface, admittedly a barrel is not an ideal shape for a pond (thanks addy) but with a little thought and some planning I think it didn't turn out to bad :)

Hope u liked my thread.. thanks again for your help.. muppetdad fishy fanatic x

Muppetdad if the soil doesn't work you could always use pea gravel. I have my bog planted with plants and pea gravel and it works just great. I think you have done a marvelous job and have enjoyed the build. You do immaculate work!

thanks again tbendl I did consider using clay pebbles as I have a little experience with aeroponics and hydroponics and might at some point have ago with growing vegetables in the barrel lid but for now it'll do :)

Please keep us updated. I wish I could see the fish tunnel. Maybe someday you can drop a camera in there and get some pictures. :)

:) I wish I could swim through the fish tunnel!

I would have liked to use an acrylic tube to see the fishing swimming through but it would just work out to expensive and I like how the barrels are fairly maintenance free, perhaps maybe at a later date.
