How much should you feed your fish ?????
I realise that it depends on lots of factors mainly how many fish you have. But is there a ball park weight or measure per fish ?? Again it will depend on the size of fish as a large fish will eat more than a small fish and I suppose it also depend on what size food your feeding ?
This is a quandary :wacky: :banghead:
All the information I have read say feed as much as they can eat in 5mins but thats hard 2 gauge.

It depends on your goals. If your goal is to grow your koi as fast as possible, you will have to feed a lot. If your goal is just to have healthy fish, much less food is required. (Some ponds with low stocking density allow fish to survive for years with no feeding, only what the fish find naturally in the pond.) Koi and goldfish like to graze all day long, so a couple small feedings per day are better than one big one where you try to gauge if you are feeding too much.
Remember, the more you feed the more waste is produced. The more waste, the harder it is to maintain water quality.

Mine get less than a hand full. like 1/2 of a handful. most likely less than 1/8 of a cup. Around once a day if I remember.

We're headed out of town for a few days. My daughter lives with us and will be caring for the pond. I've told her to feed very lightly ( thinking I'll mentioned 1/8 cup) as she has back problems and can't doing any cleaning etc.

1% of body weight per day is a good ballpark.

Thanks for all the comments :)
I’ve started feeding a new koi food which is 3mm size which is smaller than my last food, there seems to be lots going in especially once they have knocked all the food out of the feeding ring and it’s all over the pond. Suppose it’s making them work for their food (y)
As over feeding causes more pooping then puts more strain on the filters I’ve been trying to measure exactly the amount I feed.
I’ve done all my water tests and there are a few things slightly high and the cause of this can be over feeding this is why I’m trying to see how much gets fed over the day.
