Floating Water Lettuce Pests??

I have a bunch of water lettuce that's getting chewed up by something. Ive also noticed these little brown eggs? Not sure what they are from or if they are actually eggs. Does anybody recognize them or have the same problems?

Snail eggs? Although are they not normally in the underside of the leaf?

I've seen similar damage on Water Lettuce before, but never the round egg-like things. In my case, tiny catterpillar-like things were involved, and were reasonably controlled by the application of BtK, I believe it was.
