Frozen layer

My pond is roughly 3,000 gallons. 10x14 by 4 at the deepest point. I dont have a deicer or an air pump running right now. if i keep an open spot on the top would it be fine, or do I need the deicer?

do you have your filtration running? As long as you have a hole on the surface where gases can escape you should be fine.

You need to run some type of aeration to supply oxygen, it will also help keep the pond from freezing. You also need to keep a small hole open to allow the gas to escape.

I live outside of phiIly, I covered my pond, so far the lowest the water temperature has been is 40 degrees F, right now it is 48 degrees. I still have my waterfall running.
