Maybe im looking at it wrong but it looks all burnt up. Not that it will matter once installed but the plastic just looked charred

I think it's black plastic with either hard water residue or a sandy dirt dried on it.

Agree think it is just the color and texture.

It's black plastic with really small lumps of gravel or sand glued on to it

sounds like you have thought it all out and took all precautions so get digging so you can hear that lovely sound of water and be able to sit back and enjoy it all

So a little update. It's dug it has carpet found down the tip
Liners in and waters in.
Looking for plants now.

Filter has been seeded with media from my tank so just running a few tests to see how the cycle is holding up and fish are a couple weeks off.

Had a couple days off work and a crate of beer. Figured the best way to use both of them was digging a pond.
