Not really an option here; it's rocks or algae, the liner doesn't show either way.

I never do a thorough cleaning. It removes all the benficial bacteria that converts ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate. Water changes usually do the trick for me and I never change more than 20% at a time.
