Hello everyone. I am still kind of new to ponds. I have been messing around with one for a year. I went from 100g to a 6x9x3 pond a few months back. This past weekend my cheap lowes canister type filter died on me so I built a DIY filter from a 55 plastic drum. So far so good. I have a number of good sized gold fish in it now.

I wanted to find a place I can read more info on ponds and talk to people that have been doing it a while. So here I am. :)

Was making calls today to find FM for the 55g drum bio filter I made. Can I use the commercial floor scrubbing pads? I have a place local that can sell them to me for $11 each. How many would I need? I was thinking of making layers starting course and working to a fine pad. Opinions?

Deer fence, bird netting, rabbit fencing, screen netting for doors, scrubies, strapping material anything with a lot of surface area.

Wow I can use all that? hhmmm I know I can find deer fencing fairly cheap. I think they call it construction fencing at lowe and homedepot. I think its like 25 a roll of 4'x100' Should I have something at the bottom to catch chunks?

oops. I have been trying to find a cheapish pond pump in my area but most I have found are out of my range right now. I have two 750gph but that means I would have change plumping a bit.

Those filters are built, usually, to have a gap between the bottom and the first filter material for the gunk to settle. With a drain at the bottom.

so have a nice gap in the bottom with the deer fencing filling it the rest of the way???hhhhmmmm

Also if I put the two 750gph mag drives into the system instead of the sump do you think that would work?
