high pH after baking soda treatment

Last week, the KH level in my 6000 gallon koi pond was 60. For the next five days, I added small amounts of baking soda until the KH was 130.
Today I tested my pH and found it to be 8.4.
I'm guessing this high level is due to the baking soda treatment.
Did I make a mistake by treating KH with baking soda?

How can I maintain a high enough KH level without dragging the pH level up so high?

8.4 isn't too high for pH. But remember, ultimately, your goal should be stable pH, not chasing a particular number.

Welcome by the way - tell us more about your pond. How old is it? How many fish? How big? What kind of filtration? Any plants in the pond?

And our favorite of all - post some pictures!
