rdk, It depends on the plants and the conditions. If the hadry water lilly stems have been trimmed back for the winter, and they are on the bottom of your pond, they will winter well where they are. Most of the bog plants that are typically kept at a depth of about six inches can be left in place and survive the winter. To avoid the chance of dying off from a freeze, some ponders overwinter bog plants in a garage or shed in about same depth of water.

rdk, can you tell us what kind of plants you have--or perhaps a photo if you can't identify them?

Some plants, like rush, for examples, does perfectly fine being frozen into the ice. The important thing is not to cut the stems so that rain water can get inside and kill the plant.

But if you've got the ability to bring them indoors, it's a plus. You have to keep the water oxygenated tho, otherwise it gets stale and can kill the plant. Either that, or you have to stick to doing water changes every few days.
