Is it safe to stain timber pond ?

I have timber pond no fish in it at the moment just water plants and filter, I am wanting to stain it but not sure if it will be unsafe for when I do get fish ?

I stained my bridge and the 2x12 's on the side with no problems and I have fish

@[B]KimA.[/B] hands down much safer to stain wood that will be above your pond eventually paint will start to peal
stain polly's are not suited for marine/ heavy water areas...... A OLYPIC STAIN OR A SIMILAR PRESERVATIVE IS BY FAR YOUR BEST BET
