I have a dumb question... i have searched online and am still confused.

Ok so my outdoor pond is empty, I brought the plants in and put them in buckets so they can stay wet.

I have a hardy lotus in a bucket. All I did was remove them from the pan and put them into a bucket and covered with water.
I put my water lily IN the basement pond with the fish (in the bottom). I got rid of all the water hyacinth and water lettuce.

I also have a few misc plants that were given to me but no big deal if they live or not.

Am I doing it all wrong by putting them in buckets of water in my basement? I cut them all back. Should I just wrap the tubers in some newspaper and keep them moist for the winter in a dark spot?

If your pond does not freeze solid you could leave them outside. I have not brought in hardy lilies but have brought in tropicals. I just leave them in water in the downstairs (cool) near an sliding door. Totally ignore unless the water level gets low.
