I am in zone 5 and can not keep my lotus flowers till the next year..they die. What should I be doing? Where should I store them? Also I grew some from seeds a few years ago and they did great but of course died when it got cold. How long does it take for the lotus leaves to get big? Does it depend on how old the plant is? Any help is greatly appreciated. Amber

You may not have had the correct variety, there are some that will survive down to zone 5. The pot and plant need to be in the deepest part of the pond so the tuber does not freeze.

They are also heavy feeders to get the best growth you need to feed every 3-4 weeks.

I'm in zone 4 and have both outside ones and ones I take in. Yes make sure you have a cold hardy one if you plan on over wintering in the pond, then make sure it is deep in the water so it does not freeze. I also have some in large pots, I bring them in for the winter and put them in the basement with a grow light they are dormant most of the winter, just now sending up shoots.
