Do water mites (red) harm my pond or are they beneficial? I have no plants or fish yet. It is a small two level pond with a small waterfall.

Hello, and welcome. I'm still a newbie, so tell me, what are water mites?
Water mites in my pond are very small red spider-like creatures. Don't know much more than that. They seem to be dying now in the hot weather.
