This is my 2 year old setup. Got it through the worst Chicago winter in 30 years by covering
It and keeping the water temp at 66 degrees and highly aerated all winter long. Now the fish
are too big to try that again and I have Aquascape coming to design a a more permanent
Installation. One question I have is how does one vacuum, filter out detritus from larger set
ups ? I have 2 submersed units in this small " pond" that work overtime trying to keep the
floating and bottom crud from getting out of control. Thanks all.

My nextdoor neighbor bought this for his aquarium set-up (Python Products "No spill clean and fill"). He said it was too powerful for his aquarium and said it might work well in my pond, so I gave it a try. Works great as it sucks up loose algae and fish waste. There is a small caveat with it though. It uses household water to create the draw through the venturi section which is what draws up the pondwater and fish waste. So, you're throwing a lot of fresh clean water overboard along with some of your pond water which you'll need to replace. Also with larger clumps of algae, the venturi can clog up on you. Overall though, I love this thing, and am keeping it to use as a maintainence tool to use maybe once a month or so.

PS, I think there are youtube vids showing how it works. Hope this helps you. The one my friend bought ( the one I now own is the 25 foot model. I attach it to my 100' garden hose so I can reach any part of my set-up ).

Great I have one of those things for my indoor tank and was wondering if it would work outside. I see they have one just for the pond and might try. I think one could rig something up to save the pond water and dump back in, or it could just be part of a water change?

I hear a new shop vac does a good job also. I wonder if ya could be able to strain the water from the vac?

I was trying to figure out a way to recycle / capture the water. I suppose you could rig up some kind of tank / filter system, but the saved water would be mixed with the chlorinated stuff from the tap. It does have a ball valve that when closed sends the fresh tap water to the pond / aquarium as it's meant to aid in water changes as well as vacuuming up the sediment. When I tried it out, I vacuumed up sediment the used the other setting to replace water for a partial water change.

A wet dry shop vac would work, but you'd be emptying the tank frequently as it doesn't take long to fill.
