Hello, I last summer I built a koi pond in an old flower bed in my front yard its about 100 gal. Now i have a new addiction to pond and koi. I am planning a pond build on my back deck this summer. It will be an L shaped pond over all length of about 25-30 ft x 3 ft wide 1.5 ft deep. as you would expect a liner is going to be very expensive and Im on a bit of a budget so i was wondering what your thought were on using thick roofing rubber as a liner? is it fish safe? also i plan to build my own filter system what size pump would i need to buy? Any advice would be very helpful. thank you.

To our group!
I have not used roofing for a liner, but others have without issues. I have read they just wash it.
You might want to go deeper, that shallow might keep the water pretty hot.

roofing companies are always getting rid of leftover stuff real cheap .Check out craigslist and local places .I got rubber roofing from an overstock and it was large .20x25 .Cost me 35 dollars as they were moving out of state and closed there roofing company up .They gave me a couple of smaller pieces they had too .Shame but my win .You can always haggle with roofing companies on price most time .

Yep it is fish safe and I just rinsed mine off real well in the driveway before installing it in my pond. My fish have been in the rubber roofing liner for 10yrs and doing just fine!
