My situation is this. I have a pH of about 8 but GH of about 5 degrees and KH of only 3-4 degrees. This basically matches my source water. My pond is young, only a month or so since water has been in and very lightly stocked. So far, no detectable ammonia after it cleared out the 1 ppm from my chloramines, but at the moment I want to avoid doing anything to raise the pH in case there is ammonia.

But I also realize that my low KH may be a problem in the future, so I'm thinking ahead.

It's really slow to dissolve so I think you should be fine. I added mine once in a while just keep it in there to make sure I dont have pH crash.
