i posted this in plants too...

SO i went a away for four days and came back to my entire pond covered! we had 4 water lettuces and now over the past month the whole 15 ft by 5 ft pond is covered, which is great to me, however, bot they are COATED in aphid like little bugs! it looks terrible and im worried about the rest of the yard.. anything you guys recommend besides taking it all out? thankfully the lotus's are planted in a upper and separate part and not coated... thanks

We had aphids one year on our weeping willow. their poop made a mess and attracted a ton of bees. From what i gather they run in cycles. There are all natural ways to kill them, just remove the plants from the water 1st. Or just take a day and squirt the bugs off then squash them. then put the plants back.

Take this for what it's worth, but have been told you can remove the plants, put in a separate tub, and spray them down with a systemic bug killer. Wait a few days and put them back in the pond.

I don't know if this is safe or not. Probably depends on the systemic used. Maybe you could try the same process with a bio-degradable soap?

Either way, it sounds like a lot of work to me.

We've given up on water lilies, partially because they'd always get infested with those danged aphids.
