Pond Underlayment, What do you use?

I used some Home Depot “slumlord special” carpet that was leftover from a project, it is tough as heck and only about $0.50/sqft. Extra points if you can repurpose some old carpet that would have otherwise gone to the landfill.

Carpet, blankets, towels, old moving blankets, bedspreads. Layered the thinner stuff to make it nice and thick. Ask neighbors for old stuff laying around.

I had poor soil lots of sharp rocks and silt mixed with clay. I Chose to go with non woven 8 oz synthetic polyethylene never rots uv is its enemy and its buried. standard non woven is 4 to 6 oz depending on its use.
