It rained really hard yesterday. And my empty pond that I have yet to put a pond liner in filled up with water. This morning the water is gone. I’m so confused has anyone experienced this?

Consider this a blessing . Soils that do not drain require an under liner drain

I’m kind of glad I got to see what happens with heavy rainfall still not sure what filled up the hole. Rain water or the run off from the water around pond

I need something to keep the water run off from the pond. I can dig a bricked wall around the pond that’s higher than the pond. With brick and grout.

I would suggest going to you tube and watch video after video of pond builds.

You need to get familiar with the basics if your going to build this your self, ONCE

I Would suggest hiring someone but that's up to you.

Soils are in three categories
1. soils that drain well when water is dumped in to a hole that will not require attention.

2. soils that when water fills the hole drains out very slowly. These will need require thought and possibly some work to keep them from becoming a problem

3. soil that retains the water and just doesn't drain well or has underground water entering the excavation that will need attention with under the liner drains

Depends what you want for finished edge. You could also build a small earth berm around the edge and run you liner up and over it. This would be covered by your edge rocks and also prevent run off from getting in.

I just put a berm around the edge of the pond , about two inches high. Yhat was all I needed.

During my build every heavy rain I would go out and watch how the water flowed in the yard. Rain run off. Mark it and make sure it would not enter the pond.
