Depends what you want for finished edge. You could also build a small earth berm around the edge and run you liner up and over it. This would be covered by your edge rocks and also prevent run off from getting in.
Omg thank you sooo much. That may be the trick. You’ve given me hope. I’m doing this by myself.

I just put a berm around the edge of the pond , about two inches high. Yhat was all I needed.

During my build every heavy rain I would go out and watch how the water flowed in the yard. Rain run off. Mark it and make sure it would not enter the pond.

Berm's can be made and plants, rocks and driftwood added to create a nice natural look to your pond. I'm so glad I made one for my pond. All the creeping plants are covering it up.
