settling chamber

Researching what items to get for the pond my kids are digging. I can find pumps listed online for sale, too many it is overwhelming, and I can find filters, and aeration, and bottom drains, with or without diffuser, you name it. But I cannot find "settling chamber".
Are these something I make myself? or can one buy them online?

Im building one right now actually. 55 gallon HDPE barrel up-flow filter with half being a swirl style settlement chamber and the upper half being mechanical filtration.

You can make one by digging a hole and using a liner, or a drum, even bury a large stock tank.
