I have a shubunkin with a swelling on one side. His spine is straight, most of the time he hides and is lethargic. He has a swim about when fed, then goes to hide again. Any idea what it could be and what treatments are available?

Hello and welcome, but sorry that you had to join because of a sick fish. Not in any way knowledgeable about things like this, but that usually means a tumor — which is the generic term for “an unusual growth,” not a specific diagnosis. I don’t think there is anything you can do for the fish (others might disagree) to make this go away. Keep in mind that while some things “just happen,” but be sure you water quality is good. Poor water quality can be a factor.
