Silt blocking pump

Greetings,
I have emptied approx 2 buckets of silt from the bottom of the pond.

The pump sponge filter gets clogged up, about 5 minutes after cleaning it.

I am not looking for a huge gush of water, just a constant flow for oxygenation.

Any suggestions to solve this??
Thanks

Keep cleaning out the silt! Once it's out, it won't be around to block the pump filter. You can also raise your pump off the bottom of the pond.

How is the silt getting in? Is this the first clean out in a long time or is the silt regularly replenishing somehow?

combatwombat said all there is to be said. Keep cleaning the silt out, or simply raise the pump from the bottom of the pond.

Hello and welcome!

Please tell us a little more about your pond: internal or external pump? Yes, raising the pump off the bottom is necessary.

Hi,
Thanks for your advice. I didn't see any button to say thanks.. So thanks.

It is a Pondaso 600, that sits in the pond. First time I have eabed the pond in ages. The algae/silt is suspended in the water.

Would it be possible to store the pump out of the pond and suck water into an external bucket/reservoir with water feeding back into the pond??
Thanks

Got it. Running the water through quilt batting will be your answer, then. How big is the pond? If small, maybe just time to drain and refill?

Yes, absolutely. Assuming your pump has threads on the intake to connect piping too.

I put a pipe into the front of the pump, with the pump in a bucket.
With an outfall pipe going from the bucket to pond.

It did not suck water, from the pond into the bucket??

It has to be primed if any part of the piping is above pond water level. Need a check valve at intakeand a way to add water to the pipe before starting.
