For the amount of flex seal you would need to even have a small chance of success, wouldn't it be cheaper to just purchase an appropriate liner?

The liner is the foundation of the entire pond. It would be foolish to skimp on the most important aspect of pond building. Without a good liner you have nothing.

Bite the bullet and buy the best you can find. It will be there for many years and you won't regret spending that money.
