It came up last year but it looks dead. Should I give it more time?

It has green on it, give it time. At least it looks green, if dead it would be brown and mushy.

Yup - it's growing. Did it bloom last year? I've found my irises don't like to bloom if the crown is under water.

I have some that have crown under water, that bloom, some that have crown above water that bloom and some of the same iris that grow and bloom in the dirt. I guess it depends on if the plant wants to behave or not.

And in full sun if you can. Mine are crowns below water from 2 inches to around 6 inches, they are Louisianan irises. They are in full sun. This is current growth. The ones in the first picture some are in pots some are free growing. The second picture they are in pots on a ledge. Top of kitty litter around 5-6 inches below water

Nice growth, try it more shallow see if your plant prefers that vs crown under water.

Why not put the crown out of the water, top of dirt just barely out of the water see how it does. It will be wet enough

Clearly not dead two more weeks and you'll see growth on its way like it was
