Don't use algaecide or any other chemical! Just pull them out. Algae is beneficial to your water chemistry. It removes nutrients from your pond. Think of algae as a physical manifestation of waste products from your fish.

Algae doesn't need fish wastes to grow. Leaving a glass of tap water sitting in the sun for a few days will show you that!

With my arizona pond I had string algae, a forest would grow, I would use one liter of peroxide per 1000 gallons of water. Wiped the stuff out until the next spring.
My pond here never gets string algae, so have not used peroxide for this one.

I just spray the peroxide on the algae and take it out .If you have plants in your pond it can harm them also .
