Hello - I'm new to forum. I found my way here through my research into pondless waterfalls. I'm planning to build one, but I find the idea of a bog garden more appealing than a lifeless gravel pit.

Is it ok to build a bog that functions as an outlet/reservoir to a waterfall? Instead of using one to filter the water?

The bog in the sense we talk here is where the flow of water is pumped up from the bottom of the bog and then overflows so making that the top of your pondless waterfall would work.

You can always have the water drop into pool of water that drops over the side into the pump vault by using a bib liner on top of the pump vault . kinda like placing a kiddie pool in a pool and as the water in pumped into the kiddie pool it falls into the pool. you can always throw plants in the bib liner with pea stone

Thank you! Your second idea is close to what I was envisioning. Something like a standard aquablox setup, but with ~12" of rocks+gravel over the top that varies in depth, which creates spots for aquatic planting.

How do people typically control the volume of water in setups like this? In the past, my parents had a traditional pond that used a float valve from a swamp cooler to control the height. But in all my research of more modern methods I've never seen that used.
