I have used both, and I'm a fan of the Laguna. In fact, I still have it attached to my system at the very end to catch fines. They both function on the very same idea, so you can't go wrong with either one. Just make sure you have the right amount of water pressure GPH to use the backwash--some filter require more than others to do the job. You can read what they require for backwashing on their instruction manuals on their respective websites. For your size pond, you should do the 2100 if you use the laguna.

After reading about 50 older posts on here last night, I decided to go ahead and purchase a Laguna 4200 pond pump for the pond I'm starting to rebuild. Found a place online (think I get this off of Pondliner.com) that sold it for only $229 including shipping. That was about $100 bucks cheaper than I found at most places online.

From what I saw on multiple posts last night, the Laguna pumps seem to be pretty good quality so my guess is the filters would be just as good.

yes! you've made a wise choice. You will be happy with this combo. Not sure if DoDad sells these, but PM him to see if he can do better for you or not.

Are you talking about tetra pf's? I have a pf1, and yes it does leak. The trick to getting the top off is actually to drain it a little.
