While no one loves moss more then i do. your set up has come a long way... I thought you were having problems with green algae. moss is slow growing you want fast growing plants to out compete the algae for nutrients.

Frogbit and hornwort arrived last night (thank you, Etsy). None found locally, had to order.

Not algae, is sediment from bog-building and an ooops as I was digging around the pond liner (wet clay on my pickaxe went flying, right into the pond).

GBBUDD - One lily is breaking dormancy, and the other not so much. What else would you recommend I place in the pond? I don’t want to overcrowd, but do want to cover all my bases. : )

Believe it or not i think i would look at a lotus while they can take over a pond very quickly you can also pull the runner out of the water and let if head off outside the pond . Once the pond gets stable pull the lotus and go with say an papyrus or a creeping jenny

So muddy.

This is where I am currently. I’m no-where near done, but something has decided I’m close enough; those eggs were not apparent to me yesterday. I’m guessing pond snail, because I haven’t seen or heard anything else to indicate other wetland creature activity.

I’ll post again later when the area is looking more like a final product, and in the meanwhile keep checking out everyone else’s ponds and gardens; there are some inspirational examples on this site. : )

I really like how it came out. I love the rotting wood and moss look! Tempted to try that on one side of my little pond! I would never have though of using coconut basket liner to make a weir, but your whole set-up there looks brilliant. I wish you'd taken more pics of how you made that whole bog side.

I’ll go through my images and see if I have anything helpful, otherwise I could just walk you through it.
The most important thing was to tamp down my (many) layers, but design the bog so that as it eventually collapses (because someday it will compress) it won’t just fall apart inside the pond, but instead angle up from the bottom and be sturdy enough to build on again if I go that route.
This is my first bog and my first pond(ish), so I was only relying on previous garden experience: success and failure, a bit of permaculture and enough adventureness not to completely lose my **** if it didn’t turn out. ; )

P.S. I have no idea why these images posted sideways while the others didn’t. I’ll fix that if I figure out the reason...

I have had a young toad visit the pond, but the tree frogs are still about a half an acre away, judging by their songs at night. This year the sounds are of many more than usual, which delights me, because we normally don’t have an abundance of frogs around here.

We have a creek less than a mile from my property, and they work their way into the neighborhood every spring, except for one that I see on my greenhouse door every year in the same spot; that one may bury itself under nearby, since I keep everything creature-friendly.
