Any electrical engineers in the house?

I am trying to find a difficult leak in a large pond. I've tried hydrophones, dyes, and physical inspection with no luck. There is a device on the market that uses electrical current to find the ground but it is prohibitively expensive. I'm thinking a battery and a multimeter or a compass could acheive the same thing. Any thoughts?

You rang?

Not as easy as you think to build a device. The water has a small restance - in this case it can be measured in ohms/meter. Given that the water is chocked full of salts and other impurities, this value is probably very low therefore requiring a microohm meter you locate the point in the pond with the lowest resistance to ground. What you need is to find very small changes in resistance that most likely can't be measured with a normal multimeter.
