I have tested the feeders, sort of, one I filled with only Sun flower seeds, one with a mix. The mix emptied a lot quicker. Non scientific observation. It was winter. Didn't see a lot of seed tossed on the ground.

I read a while back that 90% of the birds that visit feeders will take sunflower seeds, so if you go with only one type, use that.

Tractor supply has bags of just sunflower seeds for not huge bucks, think in the 18-20 range, sometimes on sale. I pick up a lot of it when we wander over there.
