Perhaps not so rare for many people on the forum, but this is first time for me, and I was very shocked, so there must be some source of water nearby. I was looking at the pond and saw something black hovering over the pond but it was larger than your usual butterfly Blue black wings, it seems indeed to be a dragonfly, really beautiful insect. Was it laying eggs or just drinking water?

Looks a lot like "ebony jewelwing", but unsure.

A little hard to tell from the pictures, but it could be an Ebony Jewelwing, which is a damselfly. One sure way to tell: When they sit to rest, if it holds its wings folded up = damselfly. Wings held flat open = dragonfly. (Generally speaking. There are a couple of exceptions, such as the Spreadwing damselflies which hold their wings open)

I like to watch the dragonflies and damselflies lay eggs. They pick water droplets on top of leaves and other strange, interesting little places. The go boop, boop, boop with their tails - over and over.

YES! And also I enjoy their crazy 'Cirque du Soleil' style of reproduction! LOL

Great shot.

I tried to go with an I phone for the picture and video but can't stand the cross in platforms. Apple is still foolish. But the videos rock.
I have fantastic camera gear who recommends a great video camera
