Hi all,
I am currently about to start my first pond build. I have planned to build a semi raised wooden sleeper pond. Just wondering what to lay the sleepers on. Would a layer of compact MOT type 1 be sufficent as the sleepers will be 2 high (500mm) with a shelf of around the same distance from the sleepers, before the dig/drop down in the centre of the pond. I see alot of people have a concrete base/collar for the sleepers to sit on. Any advice welcome.

Yes, MOT 1 sub-base would be fine. For my raised pond, we had it dug down to give it some depth. We didn't use any substrate under the pond, just dirt. used landscape timber for the walls.
