Hi Everybody! I bought this piece of property and although NOT on my bucket list, the property came with a koi pond. I have come to love my fish, but now the pump isn't working. I don't know anything about water features. I was told by the previous owner how to run the pump through the paces every week or so in winter and every few days in summer. The water is rather murky, but clears up once I clean the filters and run the pump. This morning it was fine but now the pump isn't working and the waterfall that runs into the pond has stopped running . From what I can tell it is a Hayward Vari Flo SX Valve filtration system with a Baldor Artesian pump APM-344 HP .25 Iit's all Greek to me!) There aren't any pond specialists in my area and I don't relish the thought of staying awake all night giving the fish mouth-to-mouth recessitation measures. PLEASE, what can I do until I can call someone from out of town or buy a new system and hook it up? Should I run down and buy a pump and stick the tube in the water to keep it aerated? I have about twenty koi, the pond is about 5 x 4 and maybe 4 ft deep...any suggestions?

That looks to be one expensive pump. Could be something clogged and the motor tripped its internal breaker. Not 100% sure it has one but there is a chance. Do you see a reset button on the motor.

If it does you still have to track down and clean whatever is clogged. Maybe just go through and clean everything so you know what you have. Take pictures.

The big thing is to keep the water moving. Do you have separate aeration?

Can you not just get another pump and put it in place of the old one? I would think it would be better to run the pump 24/7 as well, although not knowing all the details, I could be wrong.

Pumps should never be switched off they are a 24/7 thing they push the water through the filters and the filtration cleansthe water koi are very delicate fish and what you were doing could very well kill them all,
Pumps are really well built things and are tough as old boots take it outy strip it down give it a really good clean and fire it up again .
/You have a very steap learning curve to learn my friend better start now, buy a book off of Amazon clled the Interpet Manuel of Koi health and read it .
It will explained everything from the basics like water testing, the nitrogen cycle, koi diseases, koi parasites , treatments and should put you in very good stead to becoming a good koi keeper
PM me should you need help anytime and I'll talk you through things .
