I haven’t read through all the responses (so those may have already been covered) but would like to make a few comments.
- I wouldn’t turn off the pump/filtration if at all possible! Your fish did OK during winter because they were in a sort of hibernation state where their metabolic rate was reduced and they weren’t producing as much waste. This doesn’t compare to what is going on now.
- I would make a detailed yet simple and brief (oxymorons?) set of written instructions for the fish-sitter. Have him/her over a few times and do some walk-throughs.
- I would reduce the feedings: fewer feedings and less food at each feeding.
- Figure out how many feedings will be done while you’re gone. Get some small (snack-size) zip-lock baggies and fill one for each feeding. That way, YOU control how much food they get!
