koi, colorado lily and fry

I was trying to get photos of our Colorado lily and in a couple of these photos little fry wandered out.
We have spotted four brave little guys so far, no telling how many are in hiding.

See the gold koi partially under the lily...draw a line out from his nose (several inches) to spot
the brave baby fry .

Wow that's a tiny little brave baby!

I know he’s so tiny, when they spot him and swim towards him he quickly darts away, but
the koi are not aggressively pursuing him which we find strange - since they will scoff up a worm
10 times the size of this little guy. He also has a black spot on top of his head...I’ve already
named him Little Braveheart. I hope our resident frog doesn’t get him

I still get excited when I see babies - they've never been a problem for us with too many for our pond to handle, so that probably explains why I can be happy about seeing them!

I get fry, probably lots, but the pond never gets over crowded seems to balance out nicely.

Lisa, This is the first spawning that we’ve had in many, many years ( at least 15 years)
The only thing we did differently is change their feed.

I blew up the photo of the little guy.

Addy, that’s what we attributed it to as well, “balance” that there was enough fish
in our pond...That’s why we were surprised about the spawn.
